If you are unsure or weary on how to get free stuff or make money online read this. This should answer all of your questions.
First rule! Do not ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER give out your credit card to ANYONE ANYWHERE at ANYTIME claiming to be ANYTHING on the internet! Got that? Unless you know exactly what you are getting and it is secure, don't do it. I do not care how good an e-mail sounds, or what a site promises. Do not pay for it. Everyone should know better by now! Depending on what you are doing you may have to insert a credit card number. Site like Amazon Mechanical Turk or if you work for ChaCha or KGB will ask you for it. This is normal and for tax purposes. Spend 30 minutes on Google if you are worried.
Here is a good alternate site to look at if you are unsure of anything http://www.surveypolice.com/ and look for the particular survey site of interest. Nothing is better then a handful of peer reviews. Read the bad reviews, that is where you will learn the most. Good reviews can be plants. What you are looking for is a common theme, if you find one proceed with caution.
As far as survey sites go you need to sign up to them and just take surveys. You will figure out the best way around them. Do not lie on surveys! They have questions designed to catch you doing that and really the last thing you want is to make it feel like it is an underpaid job. Just do surveys you qualify into and remember you are actually giving feedback. Lots of these sites will send you product tests. Those are always my favorites, and they usually come as a surprise towards the end of the survey. I have reviewed cleaning items, bath items, hair dye, and new TV shows to name a few things. So you can really have fun with some of the surveys you get.
